Item Analysis of discriminatory game variables between winners and losers in women's handball world championships from 2007 to 2017.(2020) Paula, Leandro Vinhas de; Costa, Flávia E; Ferreira, Renato Melo; Menezes, Rafael Pombo; Werneck, Francisco Zacaron; Coelho, Emerson Filipino; Greco, Pablo JuanThe aim of this study was to identify game variables that discriminated winning from losing teams and to understand how these variables contributed to victory by observing goal differences in matches of the women’s handball world championships. The sample comprised 471 WCh’s games played between 2007 and 2017. The games were grouped into three clusters: balanced games – difference of 1-8 goals; unbalanced games – difference of 9-20 goals; and very unbalanced games – difference of > 20 goals. Generally, the performance of winning teams was significantly higher (in most variables), or lower in the case of the number of technical faults (p<.05). In the balanced games, there was a greater contribution of defensive variables (stolen balls, blocked throws, and goalkeeper’s efficiency indicators) in relation to attack variables (attack efficiency and throw efficiency indicators). For victory, the number of technical faults reduce the chances of winning. Games with the unbalanced and very unbalanced goal differences seem to follow the same tendency; however, in the very unbalanced games, there were more assists, yellow cards and 2-min suspensions. We concluded that the decisive variables for victory in the balanced games showed a greater weight, with a special emphasis on stolen balls followed by offensive variables (throw efficiency indicators, attack efficiency, and technical faults). There was an equal tendency for the games with the unbalanced and very unbalanced outcomes.Item Analysis of the behavior of volleyball coaches of youth female categories.(2020) Prazeres, Jéssica Santos Ferreira; Silva, Luísa Helena; Paula, Leandro Vinhas de; Parma, Juliana Otoni; Hamdan, Mateus Graçano; Ferreira, Renato MeloIn this study, we aimed to analyze the behavioral profile of volleyball coaches of youth categories from both the athletes’ and the coaches’ perspectives. One hundred ten athletes and 18 head coaches and assistant coaches who participated in the 2018 clubs’ Brazilian volleyball championship (Campeonato Brasileiro Interclubes de Voleibol) filled the athlete and coach version, respectively, of the Brazilian version of the Coach Behavior Scale for Sport. The reporting of the goal-setting dimension was not aligned between coaches and athletes (z = 17, p = 0.012, d = 0.78), while no differences were found for the other dimensions (physical training and planning, technical skills, mental preparation, personal rapport, and negative rapport). The mismatch between the perceptions of coaches and athletes for the goal-setting dimension may be related to an underestimation or overestimation by coaches or athletes of the team’s potential and inadequate coach-athlete communication. Coaches should manage their behavior to clearly state for the athletes their personal and collective goals, avoiding frustration, and promoting more commitment with the set goals, increasing the team’s chances of success. Item Resistance properties of elastic tubing commonly used in rehabilitation and sports training and the effects of previous cyclic loading-unloading.(2017) Paula, Leandro Vinhas de; Coelho, Emerson Filipino; Ferreira, Renato Melo; Oliveira, Emerson Cruz de; Werneck, Francisco Zacaron; Araújo, Cleudmar Amaral deElastic tubes have been widely used as an external variable resistance in protocols of rehabilitation and sports training. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance and effect of fatigue (stiffness reduction) after repeated stretching (cycling) of latex elastic tubing (LET) and natural rubber elastic tubing (NRET). The samples were submitted to axial traction tests at 0, 1000, and 3000 loading-unloading cycles. Each of the respective cycling values consisted of six samples. The loading-unloading cycle reached a 100% maximum strain from the initial length and 1800 mm/min displacement rate; after each test, the samples were loaded monotonically (500 mm/min) to 300% of strain and the force response recorded. The results obtained in this study are similar to the resistance values obtained at 0 cycles reported by the NRET manufacturer (84N vs. 80N), but they do not confirm the report that the “silver” tubing retains the ability to offer resistance after cycling of the elastic tubing for strains of 100% (p = .001), 200% (p = .021), and 250% (p = .002). The LET and NRET showed loss capacity for offering similar resistance (9.5 – 15.5% vs. 9.9 – 15.2%, respectively).
